Balinese Eclipse Moon Goddess sculpture Kala Rau Demon
Dewi Ratih and Kala Rau Sculpture, carved from the hollow tree trunk of Sono Wood with dark grain and dense grain! Wayan Masin has taken extra care in crafting this one of a kind artwork. The Goddess Dewi Ratih is stunning as she emerges from the demon Kala Rau's open mouth! Kala Rau is also very detailed with his bulging eyes and wild eye brows! In direct contrast to Ratih's breathtaking beauty. Asian stylized clouds are carved the top of this great work. I have included several photos for you to view this amazing work. The photos still do not capture what a wonderful carving this is
Polished to a very smooth finish that only a master carver such as Wayan can achieve using only simple hand tools! Then and polished and waxed to a beautiful satin finish.
The photos do not do this amazing sculpture any justice. It is really amazing in person. You will receive the exact carving you see here. This is not a stock photo. All of my fine Hindu and Buddhist sculptures are one of a kind works of art that I choose by myself directly from the artist in Bali, many who I have had relationships with for 20 plus years now.
This wonderful work will be sure to grace you home or sacred space with the deep mythical beauty and meaning of the Balinese Hindu culture. I am sure you will love and enjoy this amazing artwork of Bali as much as I do.

Dewi Ratih & Kala Rau Balinese Eclipse Story
The Balinese myth of the lunar eclipse is one of my favorite stories, and perfect to tell today. The story is about the Demon Kala Rau and Dewi Ratih the Moon Goddess, and the Demon's revenge against Dewi Ratih for telling Dewa Wisnu about his attempt to steal the "Tirta Amerta" the water of immortality.
This precious elixir is meant only for the the gods and goddesses. So when Dewa Wisnu learned from Dewi Ratih that the demon was going to attempt to drink the magical water, he went after the beast and cut off Kala Rau's head by throwing his magic discus. Unfortunately the elixir had already reached the demon's throat, thus his disembodied head became immortal. Enraged at Ratih for telling Wisnu, he began chasing Ratih across the heavens trying to eat her, causing the lunar eclipse.
