About Us
What are we about?
It is the beauty and tightly knit community of Bali & the Balinese and their rich artistic culture which inspires Acadia World Traders. Entrepreneurs with the hearts of artist ourselves, we saw an opportunity for our family and artisan friends to expand their market and enrich Balinese artist life by creating a unique shopping experience for for the Acadia National Park region of Maine & beyond.
Our first incarnation was established in 1988 after my first trip to Indonesia, traveling around the USA & peddling my wares out of the back of a VW bus. We have gone through many transformations since then to our current reincarnation at our shop in Trenton Maine est. in 2001 and selling online since 2003.
We are known for our eclectic mix of jewelry, batik clothing, statuary, wood carvings, antique furniture, garden art, home decor, flying goddess mobiles. Many items you will find only at Acadia World Traders, as we have them made to order by our friends in Bali. With an eye towards the unique and culturally significant, we promise to please and delight the most discriminating & creative individual.
Fair Trade & ethical business principles are important to us too. We believe that artisans & crafts people should benefit directly from their work. We have built relationships directly with Balinese people, cottage industry and artist community who create Acadia World Trader’s wonderful offerings to ensure this. We know each family and artist personally as they are our friends & family. We visit their homes, workshops and studios building long lasting beneficial relationships on our visits to Indonesia. We provide seed money for production and projects, and all products are paid in full before they leave Bali. We assure you that the goods you purchase from Acadia World Traders are sourced directly from the people who created them, NO MIDDLE MEN involved; thus ensuring they are paid fairly & work in good conditions.
We also believe in protecting our earth and Bali's fragile eco system by using using sustainably harvested government certified wood and recycled materials when ever possible in all of our our products.
We believe in the importance of keeping the Balinese culture alive, we help do this by using art and crafts that are culturally significant in our products as a way to keep the Balinese culture and art alive and relevant.
Today we remain true to our original inspiration. More than just a place to shop. A place of vibrant warmth, beauty, & the excitement of an open air market. Stop by to shop or just to say hello, you are always welcome.
