About Hanuman: The monkey general Hanuman, son of the wind god Vayu (Bayu), possesses supernatural powers. He flies to the kingdom of Lanka in a single leap to rescue the beautiful Sita, who has been kidnaped by Ravana & is held in his palace. Hanuman conceals himself behind a tree in the Asoka garden and waits until it is safe to speak to the princess. After showing Sita Rama’s ring to prove that he is her friend, the monkey general spies on her kidnappers. Hanuman allows himself to be captured by Ravana in order to meet the enemy. Ravana sets Hanuman's tail ablaze with oil. Feeling no pain, he escapes the evil Ravana, lighting the city on fire in the process. The monkey hero then returns to Rama and Rama’s brother Lakshmana with news of Sita. An army of monkeys lead by Hanuman builds a bridge to the island of Lanka to invade the demon stronghold and rescue Sita. Hanuman the monkey general is richly rewarded for his bravery with the gift of longevity.
