Spiral Buddha Head Bust hand carved by Master Carver Made Tresna of crocodile wood and delicately hand painted by the artist Utak Utik. The wood is naturally a creamy color that will become more beautiful with age as the patina develops. It is also a very dense wood with a beautiful smooth grain, which creates a perfect canvas for the very detailed work of art. The wood is left the natural color and the acrylic paint is painstakingly applied by hand in very fine detail.
The sweet Buddha's head is painted with tightly wound spirals representing snails on the Buddha's head in shades of red & brown.
The entire artwork has been hand waxed to bring out the color and grain of this gorgeous wood. Please review photos I have included above.

The story of the Snails on Buddha's Head; As a snail happened to be traveling along the ground. He noticed the Buddha sitting in a deep meditative trance with the sun rays directed towards Buddha’s head. The snail thought the heat would certainly distract Buddha from his deep thoughts making it hard for him to concentrate. The snail without hesitation made his way to the top of the Buddha’s head and sat there allowing his mucous covered body to cool the Buddha’s bald head. Other snail soon joined the first one & completely covered the Buddha’s bare scalp with their neat spiraled shells, thus allowing the Buddha to continue meditating comfortably for hours.
These snails are honored and are shown on many statues & art works of the Buddha to remind us of their sacrifice.
