Bronze Mermaid Goddess Statue Ratu Bolorong or as she is know as in Java, Nyi Ratu Kidul - Queen of the South Seas.
Hand cast from genuine bronze using the lost wax method, has developed very heavy aged earthy green verdigris patina. She is depicted here with the body of a mermaid, wings and feet of a bird.
She is known as the Javanese Ocean Spirit-Queen and is traditional in Javanese folklore and palace mythologies.
It is believed in mythology that she has the ability to shape change several times a day. It is said she could change shapes and appearance, as a beautiful young woman usually during full moon, and appear as an old woman at other times.

We have worked directly with Balinese artist and crafts people since 1988. During Maine's freezing cold winters we return to Bali and our island home. While there we collaborate with the Balinese (mostly family & friends) and create special offerings for our shop. We believe our offerings should be culturally significant using local sustainable materials and craftsmanship whenever possible.
