Carved from one single piece of Gray Hibiscus wood, prized by the Balinese for it's amazing two-tone grain and dense tight grain that is perfect for creating finer carvings such as this.
Wayan has used the natural flow of the wood to create this one of a kind work of art. It has been carved with amazing attention to detail. The Face of The Buddha is sweet & serene, as sits upon a magnificent lotus cushion that is upon a cascading pile of lotus leaves . His hands and face are finely carved with great definition. Hand are formed into the Vitarka "the Teaching Mudra", with his robes flow around his body. Stylized sun halo mandala is carved on the background and surrounds the back of The Buddha's head. The carving is left the natural wood tone and polished to a rich satin finish, the wood is naturally a two tone color that will become more beautiful with age as the patina develops. It is also a very dense wood with a beautiful smooth grain.
