Hotei Budai Monk Statue, Laughing Fat Buddha of Prosperity and Good Luck. Hand Carved Suar Wood. Known as the Good Fortune Buddha.
Standing and holding a coin in one hand and his traveling sack in the other. He has a round fat belly that is said to symbolize good luck, abundance & prosperity. A beautifully carved joyful face, a string of mala beads around his neck. The background of the carving is carved with stylized clouds details. In back of his head is the symbol of the sun as an aura halo. The wood is left natural and polished smooth.
This is an older vintage carving in great condition. There is a stabilized grain crack in the wood at the base. It does not detract from the overall beauty of this carving. It will not crack further and is normal in older carving like this. I have provided photos.

One day a monk walks up to him and asks, "What is the meaning of Zen?" Budai drops his bag. "How does one realize Zen?" he continued. Budai then took up his bag and continued on his way.
