Rare Vintage Wayang Jodog Oil Lamp Holder from Java Indonesia, hand carved from solid teak wood. The "wings" are mounted onto a center pillar of this unique ethnic piece are meant to deflect the wind from blowing out the flaming candle or oil lamp, they are carved into the form of wings carved with images of Wayang Kulit Shadow Puppets. The wings are hinged using a mortise and tenon type of hinge carved directly into the wood allowing them to fold either to the front or back. The center cup to hold a candle or small oil lamp is also carved from teak. Still original in the condition that I found on a recent trip to Indonesia.
