Vintage Indonesian Blawong Board Wayang With Naga Teak Wood.
Blawong Keris boards were used to hold Keris daggers. They were hung near the entrance of the home to use the Keris magic to protect the owner from evil spirits and to keep the keris secure when not being carried.
Wonderful Indonesian Wayang folk art panel from East Java, carved in the teak wood & painted. The subject is carved in the Wayang Shadow puppet style of the legendary folk tales of that have spread throughout Indonesia in the form of Mask (Topeng) dancing, shadow puppet plays and drama.
This is a wonderful older panel with nice colors shows signs of wear and paint loss consistent with the age; adding to the beautiful patina of this artwork.

The Wayang character is carved into the panel, wearing a sarong of black and white checks, known as Kain Poleng which represents good and evil or lightness and darkness. He is fighting a Naga or dragon on top of the sea which is carved in relief on the panel. The top of the panel is carved with a stylized lotus flower.
