Very old solid teak wood Coconut scraper stool called a kukuran in the shape of primitive animal. Hand hewn from a chunk of solid teak wood. The sides of the body are carved with snakes, lizards and birds. The butt has a figure of a rat carved on it and the back of the neck has a human figure. A anatomically correct male with huge carved organ on the underside as is often done with tribal Indonesian art. The knife that would go in the mouth of the animal is not included.
Wood shows signs of wear consistent with the age of this unique piece, including full stabilized grain cracks and checkering of the wood.
I estimate this to be at least 70 years old, from North Sumatra from the Toba Batak people. A truly wonderful addition to any collection of Indonesian or South East Asian art, or a stunning decorators piece.
Approx. size: 16" tall x 29" long x 6.75" wide
